Obituary for Rodney "Ronnie" Chevis Groom

Rodney “Ronnie” Chevis Groom, 71, of Hopkinsville, KY died at 10:27 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville, KY with Major Jennifer Cooper and Retired Colonel Rich Cooper officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Hopkinsville, KY he was born December 17, 1948 the son of the late William Garland Groom and Ruby Garner Groom. He worked in Christian County Child Support and he was a Petty Officer 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Robert H. McCard. He was an avid flag collector, a member of the Christian County Historical Society, and worked with Tom’s Vending. He was an elder and a deacon of First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: William Groom, Jr. and his sister: June Hall.

Survivors include his wife: Angela Haywood Groom; his sons: Shane (Brandi) Halvorson of Hopkinsville, KY, Jeff (Sarah) Addison of Hopkinsville, KY, Wade (Becca) Groom of Russellville, KY and Justin (Jessica) Groom of Gracey, KY; his sisters: Linda (Larry) Myers and Judy (Greg) Hester both of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren: Callie Burroughs, Nancy Halvorson, Gunnar Groom, Victor Groom, Elinor Groom, Eli Gilliland, Eowyn Groom, Tate Addison and Beau Addison; his great grandchildren: Reagan Carrol, Aiden Jenkins, Jennifer Burroughs, Ella Carter and River Burroughs.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Pennyroyal Hospice at 220 Burley Ave. Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
